Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu has spoken to Turkish TV channel TRT Spor about the departure of Alexander Sørloth and has insisted Tottenham Hotspur were heavily interested in signing the Norwegian.
This week the 24-year-old joined RB Leipzig on a permanent deal after Trabzonspor cancelled his loan contract with Crystal Palace.
There were recent claims Tottenham were also in the race to sign the Norway international, but he eventually took the decision to head to the Bundesliga. Spurs reportedly offered €25m for the player.
As covered by Sporx, Agaoglu said Tottenham and Lyon were seriously interested in signing Sørloth, but the player decided to join RB Leipzig as he believed signing for the German club would be a better career decision: “Tottenham, Lyon and RB Leipzig were all interested in Sörloth.
“We had lots of pressure from Crystal Palace. When the first offer came in (€17m) they wanted to sell. But we showed resistance and in the end we got more money.”
It’s reported RB Leipzig paid €20m for Sørloth, and the transfer fee will be shared equally between Trabzonspor and Crystal Palace.
He was the standout player for the Super Lig side last season, scoring 33 goals in all competitions.
