Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu has spoken to the press after his club’s draw against Galatasaray at the weekend.
Agaoglu was quizzed on recent rumours about Alexander Sörloth, as the Crystal Palace loanee continues to impress for the Turkish side.
As covered by TRT Spor, the Trabzonspor chief said it wouldn’t make any sense for them to buy Sörloth now, because the Norwegian will be staying at the club until the end of next season anyway: “When we first signed Sörloth, a lot of people questioned that move. But now, the same people are saying we should buy him. Why would we? We still have a lot of time.”
However, Agaoglu said their hand is strong with regards to the Crystal Palace player, and they will make their move when the time is right: “His option his €6m. If he plays more than 50 percent of the matches next season, we will buy him.
“But if he doesn’t, we still have the option at €6m. I would prefer to put €6m to the bank until the end of the next season than pay the money straight away.”
Last month there were claims Crystal Palace wanted to bring the Norway international back to Selhurst Park and they were willing to offer the Super Lig side Christian Benteke to make this happen.
That idea was dismissed by Trabzonspor.
Sörloth has been in excellent form this season for the Trabzon side, scoring 7 goals in 13 league appearances.
The 23 year old is contracted to the Eagles until June 2022.
