RB Leipzig technical director Christopher Vivell believes rumoured Manchester United target Amadou Haidara wouldn’t have wanted to join the Reds in January.
United were expected to be busy in the January transfer window as they looked to provide Ralf Rangnick with additions to bolster their fight for the top four.
One of the names heavily linked with a move was Leipzig’s Haidara, as numerous reports from Germany since the beginning of December named Manchester United as suitors.
That came via Rangnick, with it made clear he is a big fan of the player and has been keeping an eye on for some time.
The feeling is mutual, with Haidara having revealed his love for United and his desire to move to Old Trafford at some point.
Both of those naturally led to speculation a move could be on the cards in January, but that did not come to pass, with no new arrivals at the club and departures instead the order of business.
And according to Vivell, convincing the player might have been a tricky task for Manchester United anyway, given his relationship with Leipzig.
“It’s special with the boys who are at the Africa Cup,” he told Sky Sports Germany.
“Amadou Haidara has been with us for a long time, an important player. I also don’t think he necessarily wanted that, to just move somewhere else.”
