Real Betis are continuing to insist that a move for Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is a distant one at this point, despite claims to the contrary.

Mucho Deporte cover comments from Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo, who has insisted there’s nothing on the cards yet.

Lo Celso has continued to be linked with a return to his former club in the last few months, with a growing insistence that he will leave Spurs at some point.

He’s found himself out of the picture at Tottenham this season, despite Ange Postecoglou wanting to keep him last summer.

He’ll be in the final year of his deal come the end of this month and that’s led to consistent reports he will be on his way and Betis will try to get a deal done for him.

Even social media posts from their own players, namely Marc Barta, have been viewed as a clear indication that Lo Celso will be returning from Tottenham at some point.

The pieces are certainly there to be put together but Betis are maintain a somewhat distant approach, insisting nothing is on the cards.

“He is a Tottenham player, and we owe respect to his entity. He left very good memories here, but it is still a remote option,” Fajardo is quoted as saying at a press conference today.

“It is an important market for our growth. A beautiful and exciting market,” added Vice President José Miguel López Catalán.

“There is a roadmap. The objective is to improve the squad, to face the season in the best possible way. We face this market in a clearer way. There are two positions to cover. That of the center back and the left side.

“That makes us start there. For the rest, operation by operation based on economic limitations. But there is a good base and that allows us to work without haste and panic.”
