Borussia Monchengladbach chief Roland Virkus has admitted it is “a pity” that Jordan Beyer has completed a permanent move to Burnley.
Gladbach Live cover comments from the Monchengladbach chief on the defender today after it was announced last week that Burnley had taken up their option to sign Beyer on a permanent basis.
He’s spent this season on loan with Vincent Kompany’s side, establishing himself as a key player under the Belgian with a series of impressive performances that had led him to be named Beckenbeyer by fans.
Burnley have been left more than impressed by what they’ve seen and moved quickly last week to secure their man, taking up the option to sign Beyer on a permanent basis for a fee believed to be in the region of €15m.
That move came as something of a blessing and a curse for Borussia Monchengladbach, who were happy to receive a good sum for their player but sorry to see someone who had been developed at the club depart.
Virkus has now confirmed as much in his comments on the transfer, admitting it was a pity to see the player leave for Burnley.
“Jordan can be very proud of what he has achieved in his year in England,” Gladbach Live report him saying.
“The fact that Burnley FC have now taken up the purchase option and signed him permanently is an expression of that.
“It is always a pity to lose a homegrown player like him, but in view of the transfer fee, it is also emblematic of Borussia’s path. We would like to thank Jordan for the time we spent together and wish him every success for the future.”
