Napoli are “caressing” Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior for the January transfer window, but the Gunners are still not playing ball on a potential transfer.
That’s according to Sky Sports Italy journalist Luca Marchetti, via Area Napoli, who reports that it is not a given Kiwior ends up with the Italian side.
The Polish defender has continually been linked with a move away from Arsenal for two months after finding himself out of the picture under Mikel Arteta this season.
Napoli are known to be keen as they continue strengthening their squad for Antonio Conte and have already begun working on the potential deal.
It’s been made clear from Italy that they would want a loan deal, but Arsenal will only sanction a permanent exit, perhaps so they can use the funds to strengthen themselves.
Napoli are working behind the scenes on the player, with it reported earlier this month that they were working on Kiwior and not Arsenal at this moment in time. That was followed by a report yesterday that the player’s agents were laying the foundations for a move.
Marchetti has now explained the “snag” that is holding things up and needs to be resolved for anything to happen in January.
“Kiwior is a name that Napoli have been ‘caressing’ for a while now, but it’s not a given that he’ll arrive,” he said.
“Arsenal wouldn’t want to let him go and, if they had to, they’d do it permanently, not on loan. Napoli, on the other hand, want loans: that’s the snag.”
