Real Betis ‘came out on top’ in the three-way transfer situation they found themselves in with Arsenal and Tottenham this summer.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who believe the Spanish side were the real winners of the deals involving Emerson Royal and Hector Bellerin.

For those that don’t know, Emerson ended up joining Tottenham from Barcelona this summer while Bellerin left Arsenal on loan to sign for his boyhood club for the season.

Both deals were done at the end of the transfer window in relatively quick fashion, and Betis gained from both of them, despite neither player belonging to them at that time.

ED explain that while the deal for Bellerin was done late ‘at the last minute’ because of an injury to Youssouf Sabaly, the Spanish international had been on their radar since the beginning of the summer.

Indeed, he was touted as a replacement for Emerson, who was leaving the club to link up with Barcelona.

Curiously, though, Emerson had even been linked with a move to Arsenal and was a part of the discussions for Bellerin before he eventually ended up at Tottenham.

And that’s how Betis ended up in a winning position. You see, not only did they get their first choice in the form of Bellerin, as well as a back up in Sabaly, they also received €9m from Barcelona for Emerson as part of their dual ownership agreement.

Then they pocketed another €5m for 20% of Emerson’s transfer to Tottenham, meaning they walked away with two new right-backs and €14m in their back pocket too.

That’s not a bad deal when you think about it, and they’re certainly pleased with themselves, at least if this article is anything to go by.
