A reported target for Milan, who wouldn’t mind bringing him on a free from Liverpool, Divock Origi is edging further and further away from Anfield.
There has been talk of the Reds being able to somehow trigger an extension in his contract, but that doesn’t appear to be something they can do due to his lack of appearances, and now the Serie A side could be readying their first official move.
It’s made clear by TuttoMercatoWeb, who have an article on the subject on Monday evening, that ‘there is still no offer from Milan for Origi’.
That’s around the corner, though because it’s explained that ‘yesterday, the Belgian forward officially communicated to Liverpool that he has no intention of renewing his existing contract’ at Anfield.
This means that he is ‘a free agent in all respects’, even if there are a few months left on his current deal.
Milan, down their end, are ‘in pole position’, with the likes of Inter and Juventus dropping out, but Stefano Pioli’s side ‘appear calmly in pole without any big opponents’ as things stand.
Their intention going forward ‘is to present an offer to lower the gap between the request, around €4m/year, and the proposal of €3m/year’.
Once that’s done, ‘it will be up to the commissions which, this being a free transfer, could be something substantial’.
We’ll have to wait and see, but Origi knows that should he move to Milan, he ‘will be able to battle for a starting position’ with Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who, while still good footballers, aren’t quite Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah.
Both aren’t getting any younger and will need resting, meaning more opportunities for the Belgian in the long run, which is perhaps why he’s intrigued at the prospect of a move to Italy.
