Youssef En-Nesyri scored again for Sevilla at the weekend, as they beat Getafe 3-0, and that’s inevitably seen articles in England talking about West Ham’s failed efforts to sign the striker.
In Spain, the stance throughout the January window was that Seville were minded to wait until the summer, even if there were some at the club who would have considered an offer in the region of €40m.
However, the biggest issue was the player himself not being keen on a winter transfer and wanting to continue where he is until at least the end of the current season. That was all regardless of West Ham being prepared to double his wages… he simply wasn’t interested.
Estadio Deportivo, a newspaper close to the La Liga side take English claims which say Sevilla would have sold at €40m and that West Ham didn’t come close to that. Though they don’t go into whether that is correct or not, it is pointed out that the Spanish club have already budgeted to bring in €43m from signings, to help their finances.
Last week, Sevilla sporting director Monchi explained his side of the negotiations.
“What they offered us, I am not saying it was ridiculous because it was not, but it did not satisfy our sporting satisfaction, the negotiation lasted one day,” Diario de Sevilla reported him saying.
“We were blunt, and there was no second offer.”
