A couple of weeks ago, Il Tempo gave some good news to both Manchester City and Arsenal by claiming that AS Roma were open to letting Cengiz Under leave in the summer.
The bottom line was that should an offer of €50-60m land on their desk, the young Turkish forward would ‘pack his bags’ and head off to his new club.
Bayern Munich were in the mix too, and both Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport on Friday explain that AS Roma are now prepared to offer Ünder a new deal.
The idea, since ‘many are already imagining an exit at the end of the season’, is to extend his stay in Rome, and slap a release clause in the contract that would guarantee them a fee.
Corriere explain the amount is expected to be at least €50m, but they could put it a little higher, as they would owe Basaksehir, Under’s former side, 20% of any future fee, while Gazzetta have a similar figure, claiming €50-60m.
If this sounds familiar, it’s because it probably is, but the idea of giving him a new deal to ensure they get their money, granting their starlet a move to a bigger side in the process, is new.
Manchester City and Arsenal are once again both named in the Corriere story as interested parties, with the Gunners described as having ‘insistently probed Under’s entourage’ about a transfer.
The more the weeks go by, the harder it is to see the Turkey international being a Roma player next year, but his likely destination remains a mystery for now.
