Borussia Monchengladbach would dearly like to keep Chelsea owned Andreas Christensen for longer than his two year loan spell. That temporary switch ends with the close of the current season, and as it stands Christensen will be on his way back to Chelsea.
Gladbach have repeatedly made clear their wish to stop that. The idea of extending the loan was floated, as was a permanent transfer, perhaps with the essential Chelsea buyback clause, but there’s been no progress for the German club.
Maybe their best hope is Antonio Conte not rating the Danish defender, which would surely give Gladbach first go at trying to sign him.
However, there’s been a sign that the Bundesliga club could be giving up, at least partially.
The signing of central defender Timothée Kolodziejczak from Sevilla this week gave the idea Gladbach are giving up on Chelsea’s Christensen and the German club’s general manager hinted at as much himself, but still insists nothing is settled.
Kicker quote Max Eberl as saying: “Kolo is a small indicator that Andreas does not stay. What is going on with Christensen in the summer has yet to be clarified.”
