Borussia Monchengladbach have confirmed that all hope is gone, Andreas Christensen will be part of Antonio Conte’s Chelsea squad this summer. Gladbach had wanted to keep Christensen beyond the end of his current two year loan from Chelsea, but have now publicly conceded that won’t be happening, and they’re looking for a replacement.

The Bundesliga club’s general manager Max Eberl is quoted by Kicker as saying: “He must go back to Chelsea. These are the two players we have to replace in the summer, there is no more clear task that we have to fulfil in the summer.”

Mo Dahoud is the other player Eberl is referring to, with the midfielder agreeing to sign for Borussia Dortmund. It’s a blow for Gladbach to be losing both Christensen and Dahoud, but they have plenty of time to look for replacements.

Antonio Conte’s plans for Christensen are still unknown, and it’s likely the Danish defender will be given a chance to impress the Italian during pre-season, with a decision on his future coming after that.

The 20 year old has been excellent in the Bundesliga and his arrival at Chelsea could negate the need to bring another central defender in.
