One of the big topics of discussion these days in the Netherlands is the future of Cody Gakpo.
The PSV Eindhoven star has had a memorable season with the Dutch side, scoring 21 goals and assisting another 15 in 45 appearances, with his latest contribution being a brace against Feyenoord in a 2-2 draw at the weekend.
Arsenal have been touted as a possible landing spot for the forward in the summer, although moving to Tottenham could also be an option for him to continue his career.
That’s according to Spurs fan favourite Rafael van der Vaart, who spent two seasons in the Premier League with the north London club between 2010 and 212.
He scored 28 goals and assisted another 18 in 77 appearances for Tottenham in that time period, and the 109-times capped former Netherlands international suggested his old club as a good move for Gakpo going forward.
This idea of him leaving was echoed by ex-Stoke player Ibrahim Afellay, who commented on his latest performance: “He’s been doing that all season. There’s no ceiling on this kid. He’s very consistent and doesn’t seem to be phased by anything.
“He has once again put himself in the spotlight of big clubs. If there’s a dream club, then you go, right? He’s in a luxury position.”
Whether that dream move is Tottenham remains to be seen, because there could be some cautionary tales from the likes of Steven Bergwijn if it was something Gakpo was considering.
