As Flamengo today announced Victor Hugo’s new long term contract with the club, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ interest in the player gets a couple of mentions.
That’s done by Globo Esporte, who features a story explaining why the Brazilian club are ‘betting big’ on the midfielder’s stay.
It’s first recalled that last year, Wolves placed a €20m bid for Victor Hugo, and that was turned down by Flamengo.
They now want to ‘protect themselves’ in the market, and had him signing a deal which runs until 2028.
Globo Esporte writes that even though Flamengo turned down Wolves’ bid, the player has the profile that European clubs seek, especially because he speaks some advanced English.
There’s no information regarding new attempts from the Molineux side or other clubs, tough, and it seems that would only happen in the next summer, given this new deal.
Victor Hugo ist just 19, but already has 83 appearances for Flamengo’s first team. He’s expected to get more importance this year, and it’d probably be no surprise if Wolves are still following his steps in Brazil.
