In their Tuesday edition Gazzetta dello Sport have a feature on the future of Patrice Evra, and what Juventus are planning around the defender’s possible departure.
It’s claimed that Juventus are waiting for Evra to decide his fate, with two clubs mentioned. Those clubs are West Ham and Valencia and it’s now presented as a 50/50 between the two.
Evra had been linked with a return to Manchester United but that appeared more sentimental than anything else.
Planning for life after Evra, Gazzetta say Juventus have been in talks with the agent of Sead Kolašinac, whose Schalke contract expires at the end of the season.
There’s confidence Evra is going, but his destinations don’t make a great deal of sense. West Ham have Aaron Cresswell, and it’s unlikely Slaven Bilic would simply dispense with him in favour of Evra.
Cresswell has recently returned from injury and Bilic may be concerned about giving him too many games, in which case Evra wouldn’t be a bad option to have. But is that what Evra would want?
The Valencia option doesn’t sound too appealing either. The club are in an absolute mess and facing a relegation battle. Someone with the character of Evra would help the dressing room, which would also be the case with West Ham, but remaining at Juve until the summer sounds more attractive.
