Jeremy Toljan has been on Benfica’s wanted list, as the Portuguese club look to recruit a right back. Having lost Nelson Semedo to Barcelona in return for another huge transfer fee, Benfica are looking to boost their squad, and also for players who can be developed and then later sold on.
Toljan isn’t at the top of the list right now for Benfica, and Record believe there’s a clear reason for that: Tottenham Hotspur.
Having also sold a right back for a huge fee this summer, Tottenham are expected to bring in a reinforcement, and Toljan is one of a number of players to be linked this summer.
Record believe things have motored along and Benfica think Tottenham could be ‘very close to signing’ Toljan, leaving them to move on to other targets.
Toljan is a Germany U21 international who currently plays for Hoffenheim. The two footer can play as a right back or left back, and his contract ends in June 2018.
The 22 year old’s contractual situation puts some pressure on Hoffenheim and could help Tottenham get a good deal, it’s almost certainly part of the reason Benfica have been interested.
