Following a few weeks of rumours saying Barcelona are interested in signing of Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani, new reports now say the Catalan side are already taking action for the transfer.
Spanish outlet Fichajes writes that the La Liga giants have ‘begun negotiations’ to bring the 34-year-old to the Camp Nou.
Barcelona are in need of a new centre-forward, and despite their interest in signing Basel’s Arthur Cabral, Cavani is seen as a cheaper option for the position.
The striker’s contract with Manchester United expires at the end of the season, and since he hasn’t been very used, those could be a couple of factors why Barça could afford his signing despite their financial struggles.
Barcelona would be willing to pay Cavani up-to €1m for the remainder months of the season, and include in the contract an option to renew it for an extra year.
However, the transfer is all down to Manchester United’s wish.
Fichajes points out that despite the little use of the striker, the club may still need him in their Premier League and Champions League campaigns, and their demands could be unaffordable for Barça, who ‘won’t go crazy’ for the move.
