Mahmoud Ahmed Ibrahim Hassan, commonly known as Trezeguet, plays for Turkish club Kasımpaşa and impressed in the Super Lig last season, with nine goals and nine assists in 34 appearances.
The Egypt international’s performances had drawn attention from Sampdoria and it was believed the Serie A side would acquire his services in the summer transfer window.
Tutto Mercato Web has a report about the 24-year-old with a headline that reads ‘Aston Villa, relaunch for Trezeguet: It’s done. Samp beaten’.
It’s claimed the newly promoted Premier League side have managed to beat Eusebio Di Francesco’s side for the winger, which is why he will not be playing for the Italian club.
Dean Smith’s side ‘would have carried out a revival’ by tabling a €15m bid for the player and with that, Aston Villa were successful in overcoming competition from Sampdoria.
In addition to this, Trezeguet has also preferred a move to England, which further increased Villa’s chances of signing him.
These claims are generally backed up in Turkey, although there the figures are slightly different.
