Liverpool are edging closer towards completing a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Alexis Mac Allister, but the Argentine isn’t the only midfielder on the Merseyside club’s list.

That’s according to 1908.nl, who state Liverpool have their eyes set on Feyenoord star Orkun Kökçü.

The report focuses on Benfica’s interest in the Turkey international, who finished the 2022/23 season with 12 goals and five assists. The Eagles are in pole position but have to be wary about competition from the Premier League.

This is when Liverpool get a mention as they are in the picture to sign the 22-year-old. This also indicates Jürgen Klopp’s side still want to reshape their midfield after adding Mac Allister to their squad.

Feyenoord’s record sale was achieved when they sold Luis Sinisterra to Leeds for €25m last summer. Benfica want to break this by paying €30m for Kökçü but the Dutch club are ‘aiming’ for more.

Arne Slot’s side are aware of interest from the Premier League, where Liverpool are one of the clubs in the picture for Kökçü.

Therefore, they are ‘aiming’ to collect a club-record fee of €40m from his sale. If they fail to achieve this, Feyenoord would ask for a ‘high resale percentage’.

Benfica [and his other suitors like Liverpool] are waiting for Kökçü’s decision. If he decides to join the Portuguese club, the Eagles will try to seal the deal quickly.
