Real Madrid have held first contacts with Liverpool’s Michael Edwards about a move to the Bernabeu when he departs Anfield.

That’s according to El Confidencial, who back up reports from England that Edwards could be on his way to Spain.

The Liverpool supremo is set to leave the club at the end of the season, having decided to depart after just over a decade at the club.

His time on Merseyside has coincided with massive success, particularly on the transfer market, where his work securing top stars and selling players Liverpool don’t want for high prices has earned him worldwide praise.

It is because of that he has been linked with positions at the likes of RB Leipzig and Madrid, although the latter was dismissed not long ago.

However, a recent report in England stated Madrid have been in contact and now El Confidencial back that up.

They say that despite Florentino Perez’s entourage dismissing the idea of a move for Edwards earlier this year, which was logical given the president carries out the work Edwards does himself, that has now changed.

According to their information, there have been ‘initial contacts’ with the Liverpool man, who ‘dreams’ of a move to the club.

Real Madrid are the ‘club that attracts him the most’ as he would like a ‘new project‘ once he does leave Merseyside.

His ability to discover promising players and his prowess in negotiations are his ‘main endorsements’, although Madrid are not a club that are known for promoting the figure of a sporting director.

Indeed, at this moment in time, it is Edwards pushing for the move more than Madrid chasing his signature but it seems initial contacts have been held regardless.
