Barcelona need to bring in a new centre-back before the window closes on October 5th and Manchester City’s Eric García has been their number one target.

Reports coming out of the Catalan media on Wednesday explained the La Liga side are optimistic about signing the defender, but they are not ready to pay the fee requested by the Citizens.

Today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo again reiterates the 19-year-old is a priority target for the Blaugrana and their first offer of €10m was turned down by the Etihad club.

City sealed a 3-0 win over Burnley in the EFL Cup and the Spain international was left out of the squad. This was ‘seen as a good sign’ by those in charge at the Camp Nou.

After seeing their initial offer rejected, Mundo states Ronald Koeman’s side ‘could go up to’ about €15m and offer one of their own players in the operation to sign the Spain international. Rafinha could be the candidate included as part of the deal.

It’s claimed the Catalan club are working to lower the fee with García himself putting pressure on Pep Guardiuola’s side.

However, Barca assure City ‘continue to ask too much’ for the player, and a source from García’s environment confirmed yesterday that there’s still no news on his potential exit from the English club.

Barcelona will not do anything crazy in signing García due to their financial situation and also because he will be available on a free transfer next summer.

Time is running out for the Spanish giants to sign the teenager and also for City to avoid losing him for nothing in 2021.
