The Portuguese press brings one more story today about Sporting’s wish to get a deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the transfer of Rui Patrício, but there’s a new claim this time.
As Jornal de Notícias cover the case, they say the Lions need to make at least €40m with the sales of Patrício to Wolves and Gelson Martins to Atletico Madrid. They will use this money to pay a debt.
But even though the bids the clubs had made for these players were of around €20m each, which would mean they would be enough for Sporting’s goal, Jornal de Notícias claims that the Lisbon side intend to do more.
According to the report, new president Frederico Varandas is set to demand ‘way more’ money for these players and will negotiate with the clubs.
Wolverhampton had originally offered €18m for Rui Patrício, but the deal with Sporting collapsed due to some late demands from the former club president Bruno de Carvalho.
The Portuguese press has always claimed that Wolves’ bid remained on the table, but Sporting were waiting for a new president to be elected so he could sort this deal.
