Earlier on Tuesday, we covered an article from France claiming that Southampton were interested in Jérémy Doku, currently at Rennes.
They had only tested the waters regarding a possible deal, and were one of many Premier League clubs looking at the Belgian.
Southampton seemed to be the first to take a step in the right direction, and while the initial article didn’t give much information regarding Rennes’ response, more from Belgium has come out.
This stems from Belgian journalist Alexandre Braeckman, who took to Twitter to comment on the story, explaining that ‘no transfer is planned’ from the Ligue 1 side’s end this January.
In fact, Rennes ‘aren’t selling’ as they are ‘conscious of owning a potential diamond’.
Braeckman reiterates what Foot Mercato said in that ‘other English clubs have placed him in their list of players to follow’, and it seems Southampton really will have to look elsewhere if they are to bolster Nathan Jones’ attack this window.
Having already signed Mislav Orsic and Carlos Alcaraz in the past few days, the Saints are also keen on Lorient’s Terem Moffi.
Aucun transfert envisagé pour Doku cet hiver. Dans l'absolu, Rennes n'est pas vendeur, conscient de posséder un possible diamant. D'autres clubs anglais l'ont inclus dans leur liste de joueurs à suivre. #mercato https://t.co/zVmDZtlbFd
