On Friday morning, we covered claims from Takvim that Trabzonspor had been so impressed with Caleb Ekuban, who is on loan from Leeds United, that they were expected to make the deal permanent in the ‘coming days’.
Well, things moved a bit faster than anticipated, as the Turkish club posted on social media on Friday afternoon claiming they had decided to exercise their right to purchase the forward.
Both Ekuban and Leeds United have been informed of Trabzonspor’s decision, meaning all that needs to happen is for the money to be transferred and the player to agree terms to a permanent contract (if he hasn’t already).
Unable to enter Marcelo Bielsa’s plans at Elland Road, the 25-year-old striker, who has two caps for Ghana, has scored eight goals and assisted teammates three times in 32 appearances this season.
While the stats aren’t exactly mind blowing, it was said that Trabzonspor were most impressed with Ekuban’s ‘commitment and work ethic’, clearly believing he will improve as time goes on.
He will cost the Süper Lig side €1m.
