For some years, Chelsea have been identifying young talents around the world and bringing them into the club’s youth system.
Some are sent straight out on loan whereas as others, usually the younger recruits, are put through the Chelsea education and then assessed at a later date.
The club’s recent transfer registration ban saw some players come through into the first team, and that will give hope to potential recruits of a chance at the end of the process.
For a while joining Chelsea had looked like a never ending career of loans which often saw disappointment and players not reaching the heights they’d have hoped for. Maybe recent development will see the general outlook change.
One young man arriving at Chelsea will all the hope in the world is Edwin Andersson.
Some months ago it was reported the Blues were keen, had made moves for the youngster, and he would be joining from IFK Gothenburg when he reached 16 years of age.
The time to say goodbye has come for the Swedish club, and they’ve released an official statement on the matter.
Andersson’s move is immediate, and the club’s academy director Jonas Olsson is quoted as saying: “We wish Edwin good luck, of course. We would have liked to have seen him stay with us but that he is being recruited to Chelsea is a good mark on our business.”
A name to keep an eye on in the coming years.
