Italian side US Triestina Calcio have announced the signing of Celtic youngster Leo Mazis, with it appearing the Scottish champions have released him from his contract.

Mazis joined Celtic from Australian side Belconnen United, who play in Canberra’s National Premier League, in February 2018 after impressing Brendan Rodgers and his staff during a trial period at the club.

He initially signed a three-deal with the club and joined up with Tommy McIntyre’s development squad as Celtic continued to look to the future.

However, two years on he is yet to make the step up to the first-team, and it now appears he has been allowed to find football elsewhere.

Triestina announced on their website this afternoon that they have completed the signing of the 20-year-old, although there was no mention of Celtic in the announcement.

Instead, they said the player had signed a deal with the Italian side until June 2021, although that includes an ‘exclusive option’ for them to extend that by another two years.

The midfielder has joined Triestina after a short trial period with the club, according to their announcement, suggesting that Celtic have allowed him to move for free.
