French side Marseille have been angered by the collapsed transfer of Bamba Dieng to Leeds United.
According to RMC Sport, the Ligue 1 side ‘saw the situation very badly’ because they had already ‘assured’ the Whites that the player had agreed to move to the Premier League side.
It’s said Leeds even had a private jet ready for the player to travel, after Marseille had told them the move was set up. Dieng’s contract with the Elland Road side was also being drafted.
RMC Sport say Marseille had ‘no idea’ a last-minute offer from Nice would ‘turn everything upside down’. That’s where the striker is now moving to, as he has a ‘contractual agreement’ from which he’ll earn more than in a deal with the Whites.
Leeds are said to no longer to have a chance of rescuing the operation. The report claims Jesse Marsch’s side ‘have lost all hope’ of landing the 22-year-old and ‘are giving up’ on the move.
Meanwhile, the negotiations between the French sides continue. Even though Marseille don’t want to reinforce a local competitor, that’s the only option they have now.
