Jose Mourinho is targeting a move for Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka to become his first signing at Roma.
That’s according to Gianluca di Marzio, who says the Gunners have set a €25m asking price on the Swiss midfielder.
He explains that Roma are ‘already working’ on a deal for Xhaka, who Mourinho ‘asked for’ after facing him ‘many times’ during his time coaching in the Premier League.
Now he wants him on his own team, and they have been in contact with Arsenal to try and sort a deal.
The Gunners are seemingly open to a sale but have told the Serie A team that they will need at least €25m to sanction a deal.
The relevant parties are ‘working’ to try and bring that asking price down, but if they can’t, Roma have ‘already given the go-ahead’ for the transfer and are now ‘looking for an agreement’ with the player.
Whether he’s open to leaving Arsenal isn’t mentioned but given their willingness to sell and the less than pleasant experiences he’s had at the club in the past, it’s hard to think he’d be against it.
It seems the transfer is there to be done then, although we’re sure there will be plenty of haggling over that asking price before it is.
