Around a month ago Catalan newspaper Sport reported Mauricio Pochettino has decided to use Tottenham’s buying option for Pau Lopez and will be making the Spaniard’s move permanent in the summer.
That would be part of a double goalkeeper switch, explained Sport, which will see Michel Vorm leave Tottenham, and Pau become second choice behind undisputed No.1 Hugo Lloris.
On Monday Sport report that Pau going to Tottenham permanently is still very much part of Espanyol’s thinking. The Barcelona club are counting on the move to fund their own goalkeeper shake-up, which they hope will see Diego Lopez sign permanently, and could allow Roberto move elsewhere, with another player brought in.
Espanyol are probably safe in their confidence over Pau staying at Tottenham. The buying clause is a reasonable €7m and should Spurs not make the move permanent they’d have to pay several hundred thousand Euros in compensation to Espanyol.
Pochettino is said to have been very impressed with Pau since he made the switch, and is confident enough to make the 22 year old his second choice. Pau has some impressive experience behind him, after a spell as Espanyol’s number one, and will certainly hope to feature in the cups for Tottenham next season.
