Didier Ndong is set to join Sunderland from French club Lorient, for a figure RMC believe to be €20m. The Premier League club have almost wrapped up a deal for the player in 24 hours, sending representatives to France to get everything sorted out.
The first hurdle was getting Lorient to accept an offer, and perhaps Sunderland could have gone in a little lower. RMC are shocked by how high the amount is, and they say the leaders of Lorient almost fainted when the offer arrived.
RMC point out Ndong is costing Sunderland more than Axel Witsel could cost Juventus, with the Belgium midfielder close to a €18m transfer. But then Witsel wouldn’t have agreed to join Sunderland, so the English club can only really go for what’s available to them.
Ndong has been most widely known recently for accidentally treading on Jeremy Menez’s ear, in the attacker’s first match for Bordeaux, and slicing a chunk off.
Ndong for €20m? In France it’s seen as too much, but only time will tell if the player represents value for money at Sunderland.
