It’s been just a few months since Watford completed the signing of Brazilian defender Samir. The Hornets spent €5m to take him from Udinese in January, and he managed to make 19 appearances in his short time at the club.
Now it turns out that according to reports from Mexico, Tigres are signing the 27-year-old.
Medio Tiempo writes that the club have an agreement with Watford for the transfer, and Samir is moving ‘in the coming days’.
Since Tigres just made an opening spot for a foreign player, it’s said the Brazilian was the chosen one to be part of the squad.
For now, Medio Tiempo doesn’t being any more details on the transfer, so we’re still to see whether this is a loan or a permanent deal. Samir is still valued by Transfermarkt at €5m, with a contract until 2025, so it’d be strange to see Watford letting him go for much less than that.
Earlier this summer, it had been claimed that the player wanted away from the Hornets following their relegation to the Championship, and he wasn’t part of the squad at the start of this season. Still, a move to Mexico makes this story surprising.
