Flamengo have agreed to sell João Gomes to Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to claims from Brazil.

Two weeks ago, the Brazilian club accepted Wolves’ proposal for the midfielder before changing their minds after Lyon came forward with an improved offer.

This had convinced Flamengo to sell the 21-year-old to the Ligue 1 side, but he had his heart set on joining Wolves and refused to accept Lyon’s proposal.

Gomes was firm and his employers were left with no choice but to go back and now resume negotiations with the Premier League side, according to Globo Esporte.

They had initially considered withdrawing their bid but decided to wait for the final outcome since the player wanted a move to Molineux.

This has paid off as Flamengo, who after resuming negotiations, decided to sell Gomes to Julen Lopetegui’s side for €18.7m plus €1.5m bonuses. They will also be able to earn 10% of a fee from his future sale. He will fly to England in the next few days to sign a five-year deal with Wolves.

The figures of the deal are echoed by SBT Rio journalist Venê Casagrande, who then adds Flamengo president Rodolfo Landim has ‘signed the necessary documents’ to sell Gomes to the Premier League club.

Casagranade says Flamengo have ‘agreed to sell João Gomes to Wolverhampton’ and he will sign a five-year deal at the Molineux.
