Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso is Barcelona’s first-choice to reinforce their left-back position this summer.
That’s according to Sport, who say the club have ‘advanced negotiations’ with the player and plan to open negotiations with Chelsea ‘soon’.
They explain that Tuesday saw representatives of Barça and Valencia, with their two presidents, Joan Laporta and Anil Murthy, meet and eat lunch at a restaurant in Barcelona.
The plan was to talk over potential deals, with left-back Luis Gayà on Barcelona’s list of possible targets.
They want a player to compete with Jordi Alba, and he is an option but at this moment in time is behind Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso in the pecking order.
Alonso is the ‘favourite player’ on the list, and those in charge at the Camp Nou have already ‘advanced a future agreement’ with the player for a three-year contract.
They are now waiting for the defender to talk to Chelsea in the coming days to arrange for him to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
He has a contract with the Blues until 2023 but has already informed the club he wants to return to return to La Liga. He’s already had contact with Atlético Madrid but is opting for Barcelona instead.
He now needs to reach an agreement with Chelsea for a departure but is ‘sure’ that they will ‘open the door’ for him as they understand his personal circumstances and wish to return to his homeland.
