The Spanish reports are growing on Junior Firpo swapping Barcelona for Leeds United this summer.
Earlier today, we covered claims from Catalan newspaper Sport which stated ‘white smoke’ wasn’t far away for the transfer, meaning it’s close to being agreed.
Barcelona have been keen to find a new home for Firpo this summer, and Leeds interest was pushed in Spain last week. At that stage it was reported AC Milan were leading the race, and since then an intervention from Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta has changed things.
Following the Sport report, Gerard Romero has backed things up. He’s a well known journalist in Barcelona circles, working for RAC1 radio station.
Romero reports Barcelona acknowledge they’re in ‘advanced negotiations’ to sell their player to Leeds United. He also backs up the €15m transfer fee, which had been mentioned by Sport earlier.
Toni Juanmarti, another journalist close to the Catalan club, says Firpo was only thinking about joining Milan, until Leeds United managed to convince him in ‘a matter of hours’.
