Lille defender Gabriel Magalhães has caught attention of several clubs across Europe after he enjoyed a good campaign with the Ligue 1 side.

Everton are one of the clubs interested in the 22-year-old.

Two days ago, Le10 Sport reported the Merseyside club are in ‘pole position’ to acquire the centre-back’s services.

It was also explained the Brazilian held talks with Carlo Ancelotti and visited the Toffees’ training facilities.

TuttoMercatoWeb now claims the player was ‘one step away’ from Everton before the global health crisis.

There was a medical examination scheduled and first tests were already carried out as the South American has been wanted by the their manager for some time now.

However, no deal has been agreed and it has given an opportunity for other clubs to swoop in.

Napoli received this information a few weeks ago and they have now accelerated negotiations to overcome the Premier League side to sign Gabriel.

It’s claimed there’s an agreement between the Serie A side and the Lille star over personal terms. Only an agreement between the two clubs is pending.

Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli seem to like Gabriel and view him as the ‘designated heir’ for Kalidou Koulibaly.
