On December 30th, Sport reported Barcelona have been in talks with Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen for ‘weeks’.
A day later, we covered claims made by Mundo Deportivo, which stated that Xavi Hernández’s side have scheduled a meeting with the defender’s representative in January.
The 25-year-old has less than six months left on his contract and hasn’t signed a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
Mundo Deportivo have a report on the Denmark international, titled: ‘Barca accelerate for Christensen’.
The La Liga side want to take players who have their contracts expiring in 2022 or in 2023, to bolster their squad for next season. The centre-back fits this and is a ‘clear objective’ for the Blaugrana, due to his age, quality and experience of playing at the highest level.
The newspaper adds the centre-back’s renewal with the Blues has ‘paralysed’, which is why he is likely to be available on a free transfer next summer.
Christensen recently changed agents and Mundo have learnt from ‘sources close to the footballer’ that Barcelona have ‘accelerated’ efforts with his new representatives, to ‘try to close an agreement’ for a four-year deal, with an option to further extend it by 12 months.
The Dane is now managed by KIN Partners and the report adds the change of agents is the factor that ‘contributes to the theory of Barça’s interest in Christensen and in his issues in negotiations with Chelsea’.
