With Brighton & Hove Albion trying to sign the man who’s been the most successful manager in Brazil in the past few years, it obviously getting big coverage from the local media.
In the past 24 hours, we covered the reports which said Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira turned down the Seagulls’ approach, as after bringing his family to the South American country, he’s focused on winning more titles there.
Now there’s a suggestion that should he move to the Premier League, then it’s clubs like Arsenal, Manchester City or Manchester United he’d be tempted by.
Following all the information brought by local outlets, UOL columnist Milton Neves gives his view on the situation and claims the Portuguese coach is very unlikely to be keen on Brighton.
“But do you know what the chance is that the victorious Palmeiras coach will accept the proposal of a small team from England? Very close to zero!”
Milton Neves claims that unlike Jorge Jesus, who had a very strong side at Flamengo and left them for Benfica, Abel Ferreira wouldn’t ‘betray’ Palmeiras like that. It’s also added that he’d only leave the Brazilian club if moving to a genuinely big club.
“My bet is that Abel will only leave Palmeiras if he receives an offer from a European giant, like Real, Barça, Manchester, Arsenal, Inter, Milan… If not, he has no reason to leave Brazil, where he’s been a king for two years.”
Since joining Palmeiras in 2020, Abel Ferreira has won one Brazilian cup and two Copa Libertadores, and he’s on a strong path for a league title this year.
