Thursday’s edition of Sport is very confident on behalf of Barcelona ahead of the coming transfer.
The newspaper’s front page says the club is ‘very close’ to securing two transfers in the market, and adds that the players are ‘almost signed’.
Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum are the men involved.
The actual article doesn’t sound quite as confident.
It’s stated both players have been approved as signings, following pressure from Ronald Koeman. Keen on the signings, the manager has been pushing Barcelona’s board, but despite the claims of approval it’s stated the signings still need to be ratified by the club’s board.
Should they give the go-ahead, both Dutchmen would put pen to paper on three year deals. The pair are even said to have made concessions on salary, to help ease themselves into Barcelona’s frugal future.
When it comes to Wijnaldum, it’s explained signing the Liverpool midfielder will likely be dependent on selling current Barcelona players, and even then there’s a chance homegrown players coming through could mean he’s not needed.
All in all, a lot of shouty claims from Sport, not entirely backed up by the detail.
