It’s been a few weeks since the Portuguese media started talking about Leeds United’s interest in Sporting midfielder Otávio, and at one stage, it was claimed the Whites offered €30m for the signing, and Porto turned it down, as they wanted twice as much.
Portuguese newspaper Record today features an entire page about the player, claiming he risks leaving the Dragons this summer, as a few Premier League clubs are interested in signing him.
There’s a special reason for Porto to be concerned about this exit in the coming days, and that’s because his release clause, which normally stands at €60m, now has a discount, dropping to €40m until the 15th of July.
So Record names Leeds United, along with Aston Villa and Leicester City, as one of the clubs who want the player. In fact, they also feature a separate paragraph to talk about the Elland Road side.
The newspaper writes that only one offered arrived for Otávio so far, and that was made by the Whites.
It’s said that was ‘promptly rejected’ since it didn’t reach the amount demanded by Porto.
They don’t say if there’s any sign Leeds would make a new attempt in the coming days, but if the Elland Road side want the signing, the time to move is definitely now.
