It’s fair to say Borussia Monchengladbach aren’t having the best of seasons. Currently 14th in Germany’s top division, they’re fifth from bottom and genuinely in a relegation battle.

Such a club should be at the other end of the table, but league position isn’t the only problem. German magazine Kicker have explained the club are in danger of losing two of their brightest stars. Kicker say ‘it’s clear’ Andreas Christensen will go to Chelsea at the end of his season, when his two year loan spell ends.

Gladbach must be starting to accept and expect that scenario fully, having previously held out any last hope that things could change for them. Their league position doesn’t help, if Christensen feels Antonio Conte will give him a fair chance of Chelsea success then it’s a much more attractive proposition.

Conte’s system of using three central defenders could help Christensen find an important enough role at the club, and despite being just 20 years of age the Danish defender is now quite experienced.

Should Conte not be overly impressed with Christensen in Chelsea’s pre-season then the club could sell him for a good fee, a fee that may be beyond Gladbach given their current situation.

The other player Gladbach could lose is Mahmoud Dahoud, and whilst he could also arrive in the Premier League, Chelsea aren’t one of the clubs who Kicker state are interested.
