As the English press continues to link Wolverhampton Wandeders to the Benfica defender Ruben Dias, part of the Portuguese media continue making it clear they know nothing about it.
As a response to the recent stories, all A Bola can do is explain the contractual situation the player has been through.
The outlet says his future is ‘undefined’. His new contract was ready to be signed, but the pay rise he would get wasn’t good enough to convince him.
Since the release clause is about to be increased from €66m to €88m, Dias reportedly believes his salary should have significant growth as well.
With the English media saying Wolves could trigger the current release clause, A Bola says Dias ‘will have to take a decision quickly’ once Benfica make a new renewal offer, this time trying to match his demands.
What A Bola don’t do, and will never do, is to credit rivals O Jogo. On Sunday, the northern newspaper said a Wolves’ bid for Dias has been rejected, so it’s not just coming from England.
Given Wolves have just signed Jesus Vellejo from Real Madrid on loan, it’s unlikely they’d need Dias as well.
