Earlier, we covered stories from the printed editions of O Jogo and Record which said West Brom and Leicester City are battling for Islam Slimani.
The articles said the clubs are still trying to outbid each other, as both would reach the €30m demanded by Sporting.
However, Correio da Manhã and Diário de Notícias are claiming the deal is done. Islam Slimani is signing for Leicester City for €29m.
The stories were published a few minutes after midnight, probably after the Sunday’s newspapers were already done. We’ve checked Diário de Notícias’ paper edition and the article is not there, meaning it’s more recent information.
Correio da Manhã says Leicester are paying the amount in three instalments, and Slimani should be officially announced by the start of the week.
Slimani scored 31 goals for Sporting last season and his departure would be a huge blow for the club. He doesn’t have a release clause valid right now, but recent reports said he has a ‘gentlemen agreement’ with the Portuguese side so he can leave for €30m.
