Now out of the first team, Fenerbahce’s Dutch striker Robin van Persie has become a major concern for the Turkish club.

His relationship with president Aziz Yildirim and manager Aykut Kocaman is almost non-existent and the player is now expected to leave Istanbul.

Milliyet have claimed the former Manchester United forward came very close to leaving Fenerbahce for Stoke City last summer, but the Dutchman changed his mind at the last moment because of the high taxes at England.

Van Persie, who earns almost €6m per season at Fenerbahce, rejected a chance to join Mark Hughes at Stoke City because he didn’t want a drop in wages if he joined the Premier League side.

Despite Stoke City agreeing terms with Fenerbahce, the Dutch striker turned down the chance to join the English club.

Fenerbahçe officials are now trying to offload the striker, but with Hughes no longer at Stoke City it’s unlikely he’ll sign for the club in the next window.

Feyenoord and LA Galaxy are reported to be the two main options for the 34 year old.
