Ten days ago, Italian newspaper La Nazione came up with some big news saying Manchester United made a €60m offer for the Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic.

The outlet claimed that the bid had been made ‘a couple of days ago’, after José Mourinho became impressed with the player’s display for Serbia. But Fiorentina had said ‘no’ to it.

The story had some coverage in the English press, and even got some alternative versions of it, including claims of a different €45m offer.

Now this Tuesday, Tuttosport has some words on this new rumour, and despite being a newspaper who normally encourage transfer stories, they turn it down this time.

According to the newspaper, sources from Fiorentina say that this bid from Manchester United is ‘only rumour’, and put the speculation to bed.

With not much to add, this is the second Italian newspaper that makes it clear that La Viola have no interest in selling the defender, who has a contract with them until 2022.

If those United offers do exist, then the Florence club’s stance is surely just a public front, because €60m would make them wobble.
