On December 19th, Het Laatste Nieuws reported Club Brugge have identified Christian Benteke as a target and Crystal Palace are ready to allow the striker leave in January, if they receive a chunk of the €31.2m they paid Liverpool in 2016.
Reports coming out of Belgium on Monday suggested there is an agreement between the Jupiler Pro League side and the former Aston Villa man for a transfer.
HLN decided to take a look at these claims and they state ‘it is by no means a fact’. They further add the suggestion has been dismissed by Brugge and also the 29-year-old’s entourage.
The report, however, states the Belgian side are hoping to sign the Eagles player. Brugge have already asked the conditions to sign Benteke, through an intermediary.
Brugge are aware it’ll be difficult to seal the deal, but they have not lost hope. That’s because even though the frontman is happy in England, he is aware the need of playing regular football to make it to Euro 2020 with Belgium.
Benteke’s weekly wages of €135,000 per week aren’t an obstacle for Brugge, but they face a difficult task to convince him to join them on a loan deal.
