Lazio are on the lookout for a new central defender, but haven’t got any money and that’s seen Il Messaggero, the club’s local newspaper, indulge in what may be some wishful thinking.

On Saturday they go through a list of options, and there’s a suggestion Thomas Strakosha could be used as bait, with the goalkeeper not impressing enough at the Serie A club.

Arsenal are named, and they’ve been linked to Strakosha previously, and such a move could have helped Lazio sign Shkodran Mustafi, however, given the Gunners loaned Mat Ryan from Brighton on Friday that route looks dead.

The newspaper then brings West Ham United in and there’s a claim they are also interested in the goalkeeper, with Il Messaggero then stating: ‘West Ham, on the other hand, would offer Balbuena with agent Pastorello in intermediation.’

Fabian Balbuena has recently been out of David Moyes’ side, having picked up an injury, although he was a regular before that. To think that West Ham would be happy to give him up to get Strakosha is perhaps a stretch, although Balbuena’s contract expiring in June could be a factor.

Still, this feels like a long shot for Lazio, and Federico Pastorello, one of the top agents in Italy, would have a lot of work to do if he’s to build this transfer.
