Still trying to fully rekindle his career after his Newcastle mishap, Rémy Cabella managed to restore some of his stock on loan at Saint-Etienne last year.

So much so, in fact, that the former Premier League midfielder is on the verge of completing a permanent move there, as the Ligue 1 side have found an agreement with Marseille over his transfer.

However, his summer could have gone a lot differently, according to L’Equipe, as the French newspaper claim West Ham tried to bring him back to England.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side were very busy over the transfer window, trying to add some more creativity to their midfield/attack.

The signings of Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko will certainly go a long way in that department, as will Jack Wilshere’s passing if he stays fit, and it seems they thought Cabella could do a job too.

Nothing came from the interest, obviously, as the 28-year-old had made a permanent move to Saint-Etienne his summer priority after his successful loan spell there.
