Up until today, the Portuguese press still sounded pretty confident that Sporting could sign Kieran Gibbs from West Bromwich Albion.
Local outlets claimed that the player really wishes to make the move to Lisbon, and has been learning everything he can about the club and the city.
However, the Lions are having a hard time to negotiate with West Brom, and that’s why the deal is ‘increasingly difficult’, as reported by Record today.
The newspaper claims that due to late demands from the Championship side, the negotiations have ‘stagnated’.
These late demands are West Brom changing their mind. At first, they had accepted to let Gibbs move on a loan deal with a buying option. But now, they only want him to go on a permanent transfer.
The Baggies are reportedly demanding €5m for the sale, and that’s apparently too much for Sporting.
With the talks reaching an impasse, it seems this move will only happen if one of the sides give in. We doubt it will be Sporting.
