Hector Bellerin is set to have his big Barcelona unveiling on Tuesday, along with Marcos Alsono.
The pair left Arsenal and Chelsea to move to the Camp Nou this month, after both had been involved in transfer claims which lasted the whole summer. Bellerin had been expected to swap Mikel Arteta’s side for Real Betis, but the Sevilla club weren’t able to get their finances in order to complete a deal.
Barcelona and their myriad of economic levers (loans) were.
Mundo Deportivo cover the situation today and the ‘absurd’ situation with regards to the players’ clauses. Bellerin left Arsenal on a free transfer, and has been given a €50m buyout clause, just like Alonso.
Rightly, Mundo point out that’s ridiculous given both have only publicly signed contracts until the end of the season, therefore they could leave for free next summer.
However, journalist Xavier Bosch has done some digging, and he says that in reality the players are committed for longer than a single season.
Bosch states: ‘The players and their representatives are uneasy because they know privately that, as soon as possible, the real duration of the contract for both players will be made official.’
A mess that doesn’t appear to impact Arsenal, but shows how strange things are currently at the Camp Nou.
