It’s no secret that, before Liverpool found an agreement with Porto for the transfer of Luis Diaz, Tottenham Hotspur had made an attempt to sign the winger.
The offer made by Spurs was largely covered by the Portuguese media, who also claimed that it wasn’t enough to convince the Dragons nor the player.
Tottenham then went for other targets, and ended their transfer window with the transfers of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus.
Now according to Portuguese outlet Record, Spurs made a little mistake when signing the Uruguayan from the Bianconeri, and used a contract they had prepared for Diaz.
Journalist Sergio Krithinas says Tottenham sent Bentancur’s lawyers a contract which had the Porto player’s name on it, which left ‘a lot of people surprised’ at how strange that was.
Luis Diaz ended up moving to Liverpool on a €45m deal, with other potential €15m in bonuses.
Tottenham, down their end, eventually signed Bentancur on a €19m with €6m in add-ons, besides also getting Kulusevski on a loan with a €35m buying option.
